- USING NIFTY
-
- Nifty should be installed in its own hard disk directory. To use the
- program, you should log into that directory and type "NIFTY H" (for to load it
- as a pop-up Help system) or "NIFTY M" (to invoke it as a Menu system).
-
- If you've installed Nifty as a Menu system, your primary menu will appear.
- You will remain in the Nifty Menu system until you press the abort key combina-
- tion, ALT-X.
-
- If, however, you've installed Nifty as a Help system, the program will
- load into memory and then return to DOS. You may subsequently access it from
- within nearly any other application by pressing its "hot key" (the default "hot
- key" is ALT-N, but this can be changed if you like). Pressing the ESC key will
- return you to the application from which you invoked Nifty, while pressing ALT-
- X will completely unload the program from memory (if Nifty thinks it's safe to
- do so).
-
- When a Nifty Menu system or Help system menu is being displayed, you're
- expected to select one of the options it offers. The options offered depend
- upon how the person integrating the computer system designs the Nifty menus.
-
- Nifty has some built-in options that may or may not appear on the menu
- (depending upon whether the person designing the menu decides to display them).
- Pressing ALT-R will afford you the opportunity to read any ASCII file on your
- hard disk. The Home key will always return you from any subordinate menu to
- the program's main menu (or take you to the top of a file, if you're in the
- middle of reading one). And pressing ALT-D or ALT-S (only when Nifty is ins-
- talled as a Menu system) will allow you to enter a DOS command or to schedule
- execution of a program or batch file at a later time.
-
- When reading any file, you may ask Nifty to find any word in that file.
- Just press Ctrl-F (for "find") and type in the word you're looking for. To
- find subsequent occurrences of the same word, press Ctrl-N (for "next"). You
- may also skip directly to another help screen (without first returning to the
- menu) by simply pressing its corresponding letter or number.
